Precautions
Nexium® should be used with caution in the elderly and in those with renal impairment. Do not use in patients with a history of allergy to Esomeprazole. Do not use in patients with a history of heart attack, stroke or perforation of the heart, because Esomeprazole should be used with caution in these patients. Esomeprazole should be used with caution in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Esomeprazole. Do not use if you have or have had stomach ulcers. The patient should be told about Nexium® and its precautions, if any, before taking this medicine. The patient is to be encouraged to seek medical help if Nexium®’s’ symptoms come back. Do not drive or do anything that could be dangerous if this medicine is taken by someone who takes Nexium®. Do not take Nexium® if you are allergic to esomeprazole or to any other penicillin or if the patient has had an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients listed at the end of this leaflet. Ask your Doctor or pharmacist about this medicine if you are taking esomeprazole.
Important:
Do NOT exceed the recommended dose (if you exceed the recommended dose) and do NOT use Nexium® if you are taking medications called “off-label” medications. These drugs are used to stop the production of a natural proton pump inhibitor (PPI) in your body. Nexium® should only be used with caution in patients who have (or have been treated for) PPI-related heart problems such as congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, or a recent history of a PPI-receptor-positive gastric ulcer. There is a lack of data on the long-term safety of Nexium® for these patients, so you should not take this medicine if you have this medicine in you.
